What Is Fucidin Cream

Fucidin Cream is a topical medication containing fusidic acid, an effective antibiotic which can provide targeted antibacterial action at the site of infection. Fucidin Cream is often prescribed to treat skin infections by providing direct antibacterial action at its source.

Active Ingredient - Fusidic Acid

Fusidic acid is an antimicrobial derived from Fusidium coccineum fungus and acts as a bacteriostatic antibiotic, inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria by targeting their ribosomal machinery and disrupting protein synthesis pathways, thus impeding growth and multiplication in susceptible strains of bacteria. Fusidic acid can therefore serve as an effective weapon against susceptible bacterial strains.

Fucidin Cream is used for treating various skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Common dermatological conditions treated by Fucidin Cream include:

1. Impetigo: A highly contagious bacterial skin infection characterized by red sores or blisters on the body.

 2. Secondary Skin Infections:Fucidin Cream may also be prescribed to address secondary bacterial infections that arise alongside preexisting skin conditions like eczema.

3. Dermatitis Infected by Bacteria:If your dermatitis becomes infected by bacteria, Fucidin Cream can assist with eliminating that component of infection and help treat it effectively.

Fusidic acid's antibacterial effect lies in its ability to block protein synthesis within bacteria. More specifically, fusidic acid binds with Elongation Factor G (EF-G) on ribosomes to stop translocation of peptidyl-tRNA from the A site to P site; this disrupts normal progression and leads to growth arrest and eventually cell death of microbes.

Dosage and Application of Fucidin Cream

When applying Fucidin Cream according to your healthcare provider's instructions, follow their directions precisely for optimal therapeutic outcomes. It should be applied as a thin layer directly over affected skin areas with frequent applications depending on severity and type of infection being treated. Adherence to prescribed dosage and duration are imperative.

Caution and Considerations

Fucidin Cream is generally safe to use; however, use should be undertaken with care to ensure its safe use. Any existing medical conditions or ongoing medications must be disclosed to healthcare providers so as to prevent an adverse reaction due to prolonged antibiotic usage topically or orally. In order to limit resistance-building reactions of antibiotics such as Fucidin Cream use it should only be recommended by healthcare professionals and never on its own.

Side Effects of Fucidin Cream

Common side effects include mild skin irritation, itching or burning sensation at the application site. Allergic reactions may occur but should be reported quickly to healthcare providers if observed.

Resistance and Proper Usage of Fucidin Cream

Fucidin Cream should only be taken according to its stated directions in order to minimize antibiotic resistance and ensure maximum effectiveness. Patients should refrain from self-medicating themselves or using it outside the guidelines set by healthcare providers.
